Applied Systems Q & A

Q:

I have notice NTVDM still running with TAM 8.0 indicating 16-bit code still exists - does Applied have a roadmap to finally move to a fully 32-bit platform?

A:

ASI continues to devote development hours to architectural changes. This process insures its products continue to work on upgrades in operating systems, development languages, and office product updates. Through this development commitment, ASI has insured that its products have worked with DOS, Windows, NT, XP, and now Microsoft's new upgrades in operating systems software.

Q:

Has Applied considered a push technology update to simplify the patching process?

A:

Similar to its products, ASI continues to research all deployment mechanisms to determine the best fit for its customers and the platforms they run on.

Q:

Without further investment in technology will TAM 8.0 be faster or slower on my hardware?

A:

This type of question really needs to be examined at a network level. Please check ASI's required hardware guidelines for a better comparison for workstation and server requirements.

Q:

With the ever increasing storage needs of the TAM system has something akin to on-the-fly compression been considered for document storage?

A:

Q:

Seeing how 64-bit processors have been on the market for 3 years now, and in fact, all new processors are capable of 64-bit computing, will Applied be taking advantage of this technology in the immediate future?

A:

ASI continues to devote development hours to architectural changes. This insures its products continue to work on upgrades in operating systems, development languages, and advances in hardware. Through this development commitment, ASI has insured that its products have worked on the latest and greatest processor changes.

Q:

Will TAM ever migrate to a RDBMS?

A:

ASI has, and will continue to devote development time to researching different ways to store and manage data. Included within that research are distribution questions as it pertains to the business needs of ASI and it's customers as well as the business relationship between an outside RDMS. All of these factors together must be answered prior to this question being answered.

Q:

When scanning, are the activities generated to create a sufficient and legally enforceable audit trail?

A:

Activities are generated when documents are scanned in through utilities allowing that activity itself to be the audit trail for the document

I mentioned activities were generated when Bar codes were printed. That has changed over the last couple of weeks based on the amount of bar code activities that were initially generated. The beta clients did not like all of the extra activities, so we took out the activities that were generated when the bar codes are initially printed. The activities still get created, however, when the scanned attachment gets processed through utilities creating the electronic audit trail.

Q:

How many barcodes are required to be generated for a multi-page document?

A:

Bar codes are attached to the first page of a document, not all pages in a multi page attachment.

- Dave DeGroot

Q:

Is there a recommended barcode printer or will standard laser printers suffice?

A:

The type of Printer should not matter when printing the bar code, however, ASI recommends that you try your own bar codes and scanners in a test case to see if there are any issues.
